Converting a Ranch Home to a Craftsman
The owners of this ranch home were frustrated because their home, which had been built over time, didnít fit their needs. Originally the ranch and the garage were two separate structures, but at some point, a connecting space was built. This space was mainly a long hallway that the owners used as a mud room. The owners wanted to rework this space to fit their familyís needs. They also wanted to improve their master suite & kitchen, as well as add a covered front porch, a screened porch in the back, a small office space, and a craft room.
Working closely with the homeowner, Studio Z provided a design that addressed these needs. The space between the original home and the garage was reconfigured and expanded to contain a family entrance opening to the garage and to the front porch. In addition, Studio Z designed a full bath at the back of this space to serve the master bedroom and guests. The basement stairway was demolished and rebuilt to be safer, and a stairway to the new second floor craft room was built directly above the new basement stair. Studio Z designed a spacious screened porch on the back of the house.
Studio Z designed a completely new exterior look for the house. The overhangs were extended to provide more shelter and to be more true to the Craftsman style. Studio Z designed columns for the front porch that accentuate the porch and that fit with the new aesthetic of the home. New exterior siding, trim, and colors complete the transition.
